From the many New Year Resolutions I’ve had in the past, the last one I thougt of might actually be one of the few that I will be able to follow through. It has been three months now, since I thought about my 2009 New Year resolutions and I’m glad to say that for once I think I chose it wisely.
So there I was 3 months ago reading through the cornucopia of personal finance blogs, describing the various New Year’s Resolutions this and that bloger had for themselves. As I was hopelessly browsing through the pages I finally thought – “What is the one thing in yourself, that if you can change it will change your life for good?”
And so I thought… and thought… and thought… for three weeks… and still nothing significant was coming up to the old noggin. Then one day it finally hit me – the reason it has been 3 weeks and no result was that I have been procrastinating all this time, delaying the moment to take responsibility and sit seriously to think about my New Year’s Resolutions once and for all (for the year 2009 that is…).
This quiet moment of self awareness was when I decided:
The One-and-Only New Year’s Resolution I really need is:
“I Will Not Procrastinate!”
It is as simple as that, but Oh Boy! I see my own world in a totally different light!
I’m becoming the person I always wanted to be – more decisive and ready to take responsibility for my actions.
Don’t get me wrong, folks – I’ve never thought of myself as a wimp, or indecisive (…and I don’t think many new Immigrants are…), but now my whole attitude towards the little every-day problems of life has changed. No more waiting till the last moment and thinking about this or that little thing I have to take care of in one way or another, which keeps bugging me till it’s finally done.
Now all I have to remember is: “I Will Not Procrastinate” – and I make that call or go and fix the problem, or get the help I need resolving it. Fast! Easy! Works all the time!
And the best part of it all ???
My wife loves me even better for it
